About Jen & ATA

A writing partner who gets your journey

Writing a book can feel overwhelming. Whether you're a professional looking to share your expertise, an entrepreneur with a story to tell, or a creative soul with something to say, I'm here to help you shape your ideas into a compelling, publishable manuscript.

As a former attorney and longtime writing professional, I offer a mix of strategic support, storytelling instinct, and no-nonsense guidance. I specialize in working with attorneys and other high-performing professionals who are used to writing to win—and now want to write to connect.

Meet Jen

Hi, I’m Jen—and yes, I’m a recovering lawyer. I practiced law in California for nearly two decades, working at a large firm, a boutique litigation shop, and eventually launching my own solo practice.

In 2013, I left the law to immerse myself in the writing world. Since then, I’ve ghostwritten books, worked as a freelance writer for law firms and corporate clients, and served as head of messaging for a large craft brewery. But my favorite role by far has been helping authors like you develop books worth finishing—and finishing well.

Why I might be the right collaborator for you:

  • I understand your pressures: As someone who juggled billable hours, court deadlines, and client demands for years, I get it. I’ll help you meet your writing goals around your busy schedule.

  • I help you transition your writing skills: Legal memos and corporate reports don’t always translate well into memoirs, novels, or narrative nonfiction—but I’ll help you make that leap with confidence.

  • I help you write real people: My experience with clients, judges, witnesses, CEOs, and everyday characters means I can help you bring your cast to life on the page—flaws, contradictions, and all.

  • I’ll keep you out of hot water: While I’m no longer a practicing attorney, I can flag potential issues related to defamation, contracts, or copyright—and refer you to trusted legal colleagues when needed.

Yes, I ghostwrite. Sometimes.

In addition to coaching, I take on two ghostwriting projects per year. That’s it. Why so few? Because writing in someone else’s voice takes total immersion. More than two voices at a time and I risk blending styles or losing the sharp edge that makes your book yours.

If you're interested in having a former attorney ghostwrite your legal thriller (or memoir, or professional book), let’s talk. I often require a face-to-face meeting before saying yes. You’re welcome to visit me on Vashon Island (just outside Seattle)—I can arrange for beautiful accommodations. Or, I’ll come to you (travel costs paid in advance).
